New York City – Travel Sketchbook Drawings

What’s the best part of New York City?  Art with a capital A!

Right now I am living the good life traveling and drawing to my heart’s content. This past week I indulged in two of my favorite things– drawing people on the train and sketching ancient artifacts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan.

What did I re-learn from drawing at the Met? Tourists LOVE to photograph you while you are drawing! Come all ye Japanese, Italian, and French tourists– I must have been the subject of a hundred photographs. C’mon people, it’s a little distracting, no?

Also, I like to leave the eraser bits on this kind of work– it adds a little flavor and impermanence to something already impermanent.

I am on vacation back home in Ithaca, New York right now and will post more images of travel drawings soon. Here is a final photo of myself at the American Museum of Natural History confronting a gorilla in a diorama.
