The Ghost Owl – A Tile and a Drawing

Silence Twilight, Sumi Ink and Gouache on Paper, 7 x 8″, 2010

The feel and look of Japanese sumi ink on paper is one of my favorite things in the world. I draw with it almost every day. Here’s a look at a piece that is part of an ongoing narrative series called Yosef and the Moon.  This week it is being wrapped up and shipped out to its new home across the planet.  Bon voyage!

The artwork with sumi ink and implements of destruction.

The original drawing later inspired this ceramic tile which I made last year while working with the Puzzlebox Art Studio in Mae Sot, Thailand.  Wet clay is another great material to work with.  I wish it could keep that leathery look it has while the clay is drying!
